Biodynamic Farming and Gardening

What is Biodynamics?

Biodynamics is an advanced, science-based organic growing method – no artificial fertilisers or chemical sprays are used. It goes far beyond ordinary organics, using a range of natural, powerfully acting soil fertility and light metabolism enhancing ‘preparations’, together with a complete system of supporting techniques including Biodynamic composting, careful cultivation techniques and tools, using the influence of moon and stars and much more. Soil biological activity is greatly enhanced;  soils develop open, friable structure to depth; healthy plants with beautiful flavour and keeping quality; healthy animals.

The Australian Demeter Biodynamic method was developed in Australia by Alex Podolinsky and the farmers he taught, extending to hundreds of thousands of acres by the early 1980s, and is successfully applied worldwide, especially in Europe and Asia.

Why Choose Biodynamics?

Biodynamics  is the most effective of all organic methods, and is revitalising soils worldwide. It is an effective and  practical way forward also for conventional growers, who see the progressive decline of soil structure, and  are uncomfortable using expensive and potentially dangerous chemicals.

Through Biodynamics, farmers can:

  • Develop friable, well-structured soil
  • Increase humus and organic matter, enhancing carbon storage
  • Boost microbial activity for a thriving soil ecosystem
  • Nourish plants naturally without water-soluble fertilizers
  • Improve water infiltration and retention, reducing drought stress
  • Strengthen the health of plants and animals

What People Say

Thank you very much for your important work in helping spread the news about Biodynamics.

- H. Heer (Switzerland)

Can I take this opportunity to thank you for your efforts with the Biodynamic magazine. It is probably the most helpful and inspiring literary tool we have at our disposal and certainly well received and read by all here.

- S. Wade (Australia)

Congratulations on a truly outstanding magazine – both informative and inspirational.
